What
Hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, bends, mutes and vibrato all play. Tempo, grid, swing, tuning and capo are the controls. Four tunings, a chord inserter, and MIDI import.
Why
Plain-text tab is everywhere and it's silent. You have to already know the song to hear it.
Constraints
- No samples. Every note is a synthesised plucked string.
- One character is one tick, and bar lines take no time.
- Live playback and the WAV export run the same code, so they sound the same.
- The link is the tab, compressed into the URL and decoded defensively.
- The built-in library only uses sources whose licence allows it.
Takeaway
Spacing is the only timing ASCII tab has, and one character per tick covers most of what gets pasted.
